Welcome to Musica Copa, Australia's only charity 5-aside football tournament for the music industry.
Over $60,000 in prize money donated directly to the chosen charities of the winning teams.
Now in its sixth year, Musica Copa is the much-loved charity 5-a-side football tournament for the music industry, kicking goals once again on Friday 7th December at KIKOFF Fraser Park in Marrickville.
All proceeds from the event are donated to charity, with a minimum $10,000 prize fund up for grabs for the winning teams from Musica Copa’s two divisions. Reading like a who’s-who of the Australian music industry, Musica Copa represents market leaders in their respective sectors including major and independent record labels, influential booking agencies and management companies, key venues, national festival promoters, top tier media and culture brands. Joining long time participants Sony, MTV, Future Classic, last year’s winner Universal, and many others, this year we are delighted to welcome some fantastic new teams/businesses – Architects of Entertainment & Music & Booze Co, Astral People, Century Venues, Network Ten & The Loop and Red Bull Music to help make up the 21 teams battling it out for the Champion trophy, the chance to donate to their charity of choice, and bragging rights for the next 12 months!
On the pitch, Musica Copa has enlisted a festival sized line-up of celebrity players including Hayden James, Montaigne, Winston Surfshirt, Alex The Astronaut, Pat Liney (Cosmo’s Midnight), MUTO andWinterbourne plus members of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, World Champion, Erthlings and Motorik Vibe Council. Having confirmed his status as a top grade goalie at Musica Copa’s ABILITY FEST tournament, comedian Matt Okine makes his debut, plus there’s major transfer rumours going around that the Nike All-Stars team have recruited some well-known ex-pro’s and possible former Socceroo. Nike’s PR department were unavailable at the time of going to press, and their squad remains a close guarded secret for now! Meanwhile, The Loop’s presenter-to-the-stars Scott Tweedie returns as the tournament’s exclusive MC and he’ll be keeping the players and VIP guests on their toes with all the breaking news as it happens.
“Musica Copa is hands down one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever worked on” beams co-founder Paul Stix. “Martin and I are so pleased that the event has been openly accepted into the annual music industry calendar, and it’s such a fun day to hang out with our music pals, run around a bit, and raise money for charity. I just hope that this year the UNDR Ctrl team can make it past the quarter finals!”
This year’s prize fund will tip the grand total amount raised by Musica Copa to over $60,000. Teams are playing to win money for their nominated charity with the Division 1 Champions and Runners Up and the Division 2 Champions sharing the spoils. Head to www.musicacopa.com/charities to find out more about this year’s charities, and special thanks to our partners Nike, Red Bull, Mary’s, Balter Buzz, Ultra Football, KIKOFF and Sydney Portugal Community Club for their contributions to Musica Copa 2018.
As we all strive for further gender equality across the music industry, Musica Copa continues its ‘open mixed’ team format (adopted by many Football NSW Futsal competitions), which requires 2 of the 4 outfield players on pitch to be female. Each 8 player-squad has a mandatory minimum of 3 female players (with more encouraged of course!) and we were privileged last year to welcome members of Australia women's national soccer team, the Matilda’s to Musica Copa!
Brand new to Musica Copa this year is the Ultra Football Players Lounge featuring the latest Nike Always Forward product pack, players ‘nickname’ pressing machines, a chill out zone and foosball tables plus a shop selling essential soccer items in case you forget your boots! Also new for 2018 is Half Time Talk; a new content series produced by Musica Copa to explore the special link between football and music. DMA’s launched the series just before the World Cup (watch video here) and earlier this month Winston Surfshirttalked exclusively about his passion for Portsmouth FC, how England performed at the World Cup and his new band POLOSHIRT – ahead of making his playing debut at Musica Copa.
