On Friday 2nd February 2024, Musica Copa celebrates its 10th Anniversary with the return of the music industry’s beloved charity 5-a-side charity football tournament.

Since 2013 Musica Copa has brought together the Australian music industry to kick goals and raise money for countless deserving charities. The last decade of tournaments has seen over $130K raised for the winning teams’ chosen charities. Now, between this year’s $50K charity prize pool and the addition of the fundraising concert and online donations, their goal is to raise $70K in 2023, taking the total ten-year fundraising figure to $200K.

Founded ten years ago over some post-match beers by football nuts Paul Stix and Martin Novosel (Purple Sneakers), the annual Musica Copa charity tournament continues to be passionately helmed by Stix via his music company UNDR Ctrl. Looking forward to this year’s tournament more than ever, Stix says “Musica Copa is hands down one of the most rewarding and fun projects I’ve ever worked on. I couldn’t be happier with how the event has connected, touched and helped so many people over the past decade.”

Young Franco

Last year Sweat It Out took home the Division 1 trophy and $15,000 for their charity Safe Steps, Century Venues scooped Division 2 and $10,000 for the Seed Mob organisation and FBi Radio triumphed in Division 3 to secure $5000 for Redfern Youth Connect.

In addition to the prize money, Musica Copa is delighted to announce its continued support for The Justin Cosby Scholarship; an annual Arts & Entertainment Management scholarship partnered with AIM (The Australian Institute of Music) to honour Justin’s legacy. Rather fittingly, Justin was the recipient of Musica Copa’s Fair Play award prior to his passing, and last year we introduced the inaugural Justin Cosby Fair Play Award to pay our own respects. We proudly raised $10,016.80 for the Scholarship in 2022 and look forward to contributing more essential funding for years to come.

To buy tournament spectator tickets or simply make a donation, select a donation amount and choose which team you’d like to support and 100% of those much-needed funds will go to your preferred teams’ chosen charity.

Special thanks goes to our amazing partners Better Beer, Campari, Centennial Parklands Sports Centre, FELLR, Heaps Normal, KIKOFF, Mary’s, Music & Booze Co, Nike, Sportsblock, Sure Studios and Ultra Football, without whom these event would not be possible.

Cosmo’s Midnight

This year’s all-inclusive mixed rules soccer tournament at Centennial Parklands Sports Centre features 36 influential music industry businesses split into 3x divisions of 12 teams, competing for their chance to share $50,000 in prize money. It’s a frantic and fun-filled day of round-robin matches determining which teams make it through to the Grand Finals to unlock the prize money for their nominated charities.

Over the years, Musica Copa has enlisted a festival sized line-up of musicians/players on the pitch including Alex the Astronaut, Bag Raiders, Basenji, Cosmo’s Midnight, Crooked Colours, DMA’S, Kwame, Flight Facilities, G Flip, Gang Of Youths, Joyride, Just A Gent, Kilter, Krewella, Matt Okine, Montaigne, Motez, Nina Las Vegas, Ruel, Set Mo, The Rubens, What So Not, Winston Surfshirt and Young Franco. Whilst from the sports world we’ve been blessed with guest appearances from Fox Sports host Adam Peacock, Socceroo legends Brett Emerton, Matildas and W-League players Gabe Marzano, Emily Shields, Leena Khamis, Sham Khamis, Chantelle Symes and more. We look forward to seeing which stars, on and off the field, will join us this year!

ABC presenter Marty Smiley returns as the official host for the day, joined by triple j radio presenter and all-round powerhouse Lucy Smith. FBi Radio DJs will be firing up the Musica Copa Soundsystem and we are teaming up with Wild Turkey to present some unmissable live performances. Our stomachs are rumbling at the prospect of Mary’s Burgers returning to host a bespoke food menu for the day, including veggie & vegan dishes, and we welcome our pals at PFC Vintage who will be selling a range of vintage football shirts.
